The town of Toledo is a municipality in the district of La Sagra. The term "Yuncos" is derived from ivucos, reed. According to information from 1788 was originally called "The Unco Sales", for being a land where they raised many rushes. Following the same information, these sales were in the service of the hamlet of Palomequejo, small village and disappeared.
Today, the urban development that the region has experienced in recent years been relegated to a minimum the land where the grass thrived in favor of an urban environment that combines functional and combines modern architecture the rural essence of the town.
Today we had occasion to visit the Villa de Yuncos Antonio (Cherokee), Naomi (Nahan), Nuria and Juande in the company of our hosts, Richard (Curillo) and Isabel. We used the visit to the city to visit some interesting places in the town who himself led us in a visit to the geocache that Ricardo has enabled here.
One of these concerns is the old flour mill, located in the heart of the town, although quite dilapidated state. The building is protected by the Diputación Provincial de Toledo and wait patiently for a reconstruction that will give life as a municipal library.
In the street, walking down the Calle Real, and a few meters, the headquarters of the new City Hall Yuncos, which is set on a beautiful Neo-Mudejar building from the early twentieth century has also recently undergone an effective process of restoration.
Following our walk we reached the Plaza de la Villa, a very intimate and peaceful corner of the town where stands the old town hall.
Very near the Plaza de la Villa we reach the outskirts of the parish church of San Juan Bautista (XVI century), Renaissance style, with excellent reredos behind the altar depicting the beheading of the saint. Today is the parish of the municipality.
And
latter one could walk through a beautiful park dominated by a large pond filled with waterfowl, and we can find, as a curiosity, the machinery of an old oil mill.
