Castellote, Mills and Crystal Caves

The second Jordan of KDD in the Land of No, organized by Foroware, Outdoors & Technology, This Sunday, March 21, 2010, ran in The Maestrazgo Teruel, particularly between the towns of Castellote, where we established our property and the neighboring town of Molinos, which would visit the famous Crystal Caves.

For some, the morning began very early to not miss the unique opportunity of two enclaves in the town of Castellote.

One of these sites is the castle that presides over the heights of the town. Castellote Castle is a fortress strategically situated on a steep rocky escarpment, which dominates the town, taking a prominent role during the Middle Ages and more recently in the Wars Carlist, which accounted for much of the state of ruin that is today.

can be accessed by a steep cobblestone path that after 20 or 30 minute walk will leave at the Castle, enjoying sweeping views of the environment Castellote, Santolan reservoir and in general, the entire region.

Another unique environment Castellote sites, is found between the high cliffs where stands the stunning Chapel of the Llovedor, dating from the eighteenth century.

The wall houses the Hermitage rehmannia plenty of water for a series of cracks in the rock where vegetation has proliferated, resulting in the water, the flow between these mosses and algae, fall as much like the rain, taking hence its name.

Not surprisingly in this shrine is venerated image of La Virgen del Agua and an unusual procession takes place on May 1 in which only involves the local men.

At 11:00 h in the morning we had an appointment the whole group to visit the famous Crystal Caves, at a place called "Las Graderas", 3km from the small town of Molinos.

So, once we meet promptly all attendees, even with good taste that we had in store the day before, took the opportunity to take a group photo to serve as a reminder of our journey through the area.

And immediately lined the steep stairs that would give us access to the entrance to the Crystal Caves, where we visited a small walking tour its beautiful galleries.

The uniqueness of these caves lies in the large eccentric stalactites development, characterized by growing in all directions in space, defying even the laws of gravity. In fact, geologists have not yet found scientific explanation explain these formations.

Another feature of these caves is the discovery inside the remains of the jaw called Man of Mills, the oldest human found in Aragon, dating from around 25,000 years.

And with a visit to Crystal Caves we close the event, some took the opportunity to visit the nearby town of mills and enjoy the picturesque narrow streets, the impressive gorge of St. Nicholas, which stood a castle calatravo, now practically disappeared, and the parish church dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows, Gothic fifteenth century historic-artistic monument of national character.

With a great taste we parted, and we are located, of course, to meet again next year in another corner of our country where you can spend a few moments, at least as good as we were able to share in this edition.

A Walk

At 10:30 am this Saturday, March 20, 2010, appointment time we shook the door of San Miquel de Morella all participants in this second edition of the KDD in the Land of No organized by Foroware, Outdoors & Technology, to start the tour tour of the city.

During our visit we had the opportunity to visit the interior hallway and we could find a nice example of the art of giants and carnival figures, deeply rooted in Morella.

Following our visit we now come to the Calle de Don Blasco de Alagon. This is a colonnaded street of great beauty and identity retains its medieval character.

At the end of Calle de Don Blasco de Alagon can find one of the most impressive mansions in the city, the Palacio del Cardenal Ram, now restored as a hotel. We are amazed by its roof, topped with an impressive wood paneling exquisitely worked, of Neapolitan influence.

Continuing our tour, we stopped now with another manor house, La Casa Rovira, which hosted the famous scholar blessed and San Vicente Ferrer, to attend the famous meeting of the three crowned heads, a Saint (S . Vicente Ferrer), a pope (Benedict XIII or Pope Luna) and a king (Ferdinand I of Aragon), called for seek a consensus to end the Western Schism, which ended without success after the refusal of abdication by Pope Luna. Josefina calls our attention to the plate visibly presides over this house, which refers to the legendary part of this historic moment, that was the miracle of San Vicente Ferrer worked to resuscitate a child who was murdered by his mother and cooked to offer it the saint as the most exquisite delicacies.

We come now to the Archpriest's Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. It is one of the most beautiful temples in the Mediterranean. Gothic building, brings together two door facade of great interest, that of Apostles and the Virgin.

And once the tour route, the agenda was free for everyone to enjoy the best way. Some did not want to miss the chance to go to the icon par excellence of the city, the castle of Morella.

The castle, which overlooks a sea of \u200b\u200bmountains, has been a most impressive strengths of the Mediterranean. The passage of numerous civilizations, prehistoric Iberians, Romans, Muslims, Christians ... have left their mark on this impressive building inhabited continuously since the third millennium BC.

Each stone contains stories, legends, alliances and conflicts. Courtyard rooms and have been the scene of the battles of El Cid, of strife as the War of Succession, and the axis of the Carlist wars.

These stones have been witness to the Cathars and Habsburg times. From the top you can fly through the sky of Morella, mountain ranges extend before you and the visual descent, panoramic, Morella house at the foot of the castle it seems like a swarm of red roofs.

After visiting the castle, all the teams participating in this journey of KDD in the Land of No one could enjoy the many caches enabled in the area and let us know a little more about the fabulous setting of Morella with its hidden corners, balconies with fabulous views, and stunning sights such as the sections of the aqueduct that provided water past the city.
