The Biosphere Reserve is located in the Urdaibai Busturialdea Vizcaya region in the Basque Country (Spain). It occupies an area of \u200b\u200b220 km2 and has a rich and diverse ecological concentrated around the final stretch of the Oka River, whose mouth is an estuary.

is, considering its extent and degree of conservation, the most important wetland in the Basque Country, and an important resting and wintering area for migratory birds.
For this reason, as well as natural interest, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational and socio-economic, adopted on 6 July 1986 the law regulating the use and protection of the area, declared a Biosphere Reserve, and more recently for its ornithological importance, was declared in 1994 Special Protection Area for (SPAs).
It is about a rural, natural landscape and rich for the visitors, who can enjoy the hidden corners very unique in that lasts a full representation of the environments typical of the Cantabrian coast.
From the cliffs and beaches of coastal forests and inland rivers, through wetlands and river meadows, populations with a perfect combination of rustic and seafaring essence and Bermeo, Gernika, Mundaka, or Elantxove, concurs in this region probably the most diverse scenery and ecology of Euskadi, and is therefore a must for tourists who appreciate the discovery of alternative rural destinations, which remain a major essence and identity and rich culture, cuisine and landscape.
